Effects, playsets, shortcuts — SLAMY 1.2 is out with goodies!

Happy holidays, friends!

I made SLAMY because I needed it to exist, expecting nothing really. Yet, quite a few of you have decided that it’s a neat little tool as well. And asked for more! And I got to use it for a bit too, adding my own feedback into the mix.

So let’s start with BIG STUFF, or the stocking will rip and tear apart.

Audio effects and filters

That was a popular suggestion, and not outside of my own ambitions with this app. Made with Godot, SLAMY has access to a bunch of built-in audio effects and adding them, technically, would be a trivial task. (Less so when you consider making UI nice 👀).

So I managed to do just that. Starting with version 1.2 you can add a number of sound effects to individual tracks in the Mixer. I tried to make controls more friendly towards lay-people like myself. So play around and you’ll get the hang of it!

This is the first iteration of the feature, and I’d love to hear from you if it works well or not (both technically and in terms of sensibility).

As a heads-up, I know that sounds cut at the track time during export, while effects may continue playing. That’s something that I do plan to tackle eventually. For now, you can add a particularly long second track to the mix, set its level to zero, and then adjust its length as you need.

Playsets

As I was using SLAMY myself, working on my upcoming game, one quirk of a large sound effect library became apparent: there are just SO MANY good samples in there! Samples that would work for something else in the project, but not for something that I’m trying to handle right now.

So an idea of playsets was born, and now you can quickly add sounds to sets, even put little notes there, and then store the set somewhere until you need it. Build a little subset of your library for a specific task, really simply.

A bunch of QoL

These next two features are self-explanatory: there is a ton of new shortcuts and hotkeys in the app, and whenever you make changes to mixes or sets, there is now a confirmation dialog for actions which will result in data loss. And that includes exit confirmation!

Shortcuts you’ll find almost everywhere you’d expect. Some existing ones have changed too, to better align with new key combinations and general expectations. You can find most of them in the settings popup (just press F1!), and some others dotted around contextually relevant UI elements.

Besides all that, a couple of annoying bugs have been fixed too (but to keep things interesting, I probably introduced a few more).

Well, don’t let those New Year dishes get cold! Have a happy turn of the year, and then get SLAMY 1.2 with these cool new features and let me know what you think.

Cheers!

Well done!
For years I'd been needing a quick & easy audio auditioner, and any time I started trying out programs they proved to be way too cumbersome or slow - but SLAMY is the prefect balance of speed and power!

Looking forward to trying out the effects and Playsets!

Thanks! Hope it proves useful to you :)

So far so good! I haven't done one of those 'full day sample audition / reoganization' efforts yet, but in a few months I ought to be able to thoroughly test it!
