Game Mechanics Explained

Hello, everyone!

As the game was developed within a very short time frame and was tested on some specific people I could trust, there are bound to be issues with getting into it for some folks. I hope that everyone enjoys playing around with the elements present in the first few levels to figure out how it is all connected. But in case it frustrates you instead this post will explain the systems in a few words. For people wishing to see rather than to read there is a video attached on how to solve the Level_0 stage.

The game is based around balancing out two metrics: your budget and your town's pollution level. Levels start with some predefined numbers in both metrics, and goals you must reach by the end of it. Failing to keep your pollution in check fails the level. Failing to spread the budget across the stage would lock you into failing it as well.

Each pink car adds 5 pollution units permanently. This means that after that vehicle leaves the field at the far left end, the pollution will not go down. You can only reduce your current pollution level by planting parks. Parks reduce the level by 20 units. However, parks are vulnerable. They get slowly destroyed by passing cars. The lower the park is health-wise, the less it reduces the pollution. For example, if a park is at 50% health, it would reduce the pollution by 10 units instead of 20. All interactions are tick based. Game ticks every second. The timer at the top should help you keep the track of that.

The pollution level is always rising with each spawned car. You have to balance it out with the ever-increasing number of trees. Be confident with the order of things you want to do. Don't be shy with the Spawn button. And pay attention to the icons on controls at the bottom, they can help to inform your decisions.

I'm sorry if the game doesn't explain those things well. Once again, I am reluctant explaining it at all as to me this seems to be the essential part of experiencing a game. But I do acknowledge that it is a bit rushed and as such may not be lacking clarity.

Thank you for your attention!
